Ingredients
1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter
1/2 cup brown sugar (light or dark)
1/4 cup granulated sugar
1 egg
1 tsp vanilla extract
1 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 tsp baking soda
1/4 tsp salt
3/4 cup chocolate chips or chunks (semi-sweet or dark)
Optional: Flaky sea salt for topping
Instructions
1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
2. In an 8-inch oven-safe skillet, melt butter over medium heat. Continue cooking until it turns golden brown and smells nutty, about 4–5 minutes. Remove from heat and let cool slightly (5 minutes).
3. Whisk in brown sugar and granulated sugar until combined.
4. Add egg and vanilla. Stir until glossy and smooth.
5. Mix in flour, baking soda, and salt. Stir until just combined.
6. Fold in chocolate chips, reserving a few for topping.
7. Smooth dough in skillet and press in extra chips on top.
8. Bake 18–22 minutes, until edges are golden and center is still soft.
9. Sprinkle flaky sea salt on top if desired. Serve warm, straight from the skillet, with ice cream.
Notes
Use browned butter for a rich, nutty flavor—don’t skip this step!
Don’t overbake—center should be slightly underdone for maximum gooeyness.
Serve with vanilla ice cream for the ultimate skillet cookie experience.
