Ingredients
For the dough:
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 cup cold unsalted butter, cubed
1/2 cup sour cream
For the apple filling:
2 cups peeled, chopped apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp)
2 tbsp unsalted butter
1/4 cup brown sugar
1 tsp ground cinnamon
1 tsp cornstarch
For the glaze:
1 cup powdered sugar
2–3 tbsp milk
1/2 tsp vanilla extract
Instructions
1. In a food processor or bowl, cut cold butter into flour until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Stir in sour cream. Form dough into a ball, wrap, and chill for 1 hour.
2. Meanwhile, make the filling: Cook apples, butter, brown sugar, and cinnamon in a pan over medium heat for 5–7 minutes until tender. Stir in cornstarch and cook 1 more minute until thickened. Cool completely.
3. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
4. Roll dough into a 12×8-inch rectangle. Spoon apple filling down the center.
5. Fold sides over filling and pinch to seal. Shape into an oval or log and place seam side down.
6. Bake 30–35 minutes until golden brown. Cool slightly.
7. Whisk glaze ingredients and drizzle over cooled kringle. Let set before slicing.
Notes
Use pre-made pie dough or puff pastry to save time.
Chill the kringle before baking for a flakier texture.
Add chopped pecans or walnuts to the filling for crunch.
