Ingredients
12 mozzarella string cheese sticks, cut in half
1/2 cup all-purpose flour
2 large eggs, beaten
1 tbsp milk
1 1/2 cups Italian-style breadcrumbs
1/2 tsp garlic powder
1/4 tsp black pepper
1/4 tsp salt
1/4 tsp paprika
Oil for frying (vegetable or canola)
Marinara sauce, for dipping
Instructions
1. Place flour in a shallow bowl. In another bowl, whisk eggs with milk. In a third bowl, mix breadcrumbs with garlic powder, pepper, salt, and paprika.
2. Dredge each cheese stick half in flour, then dip in egg, then coat in breadcrumbs. For extra crunch, repeat egg and breadcrumb coating.
3. Place coated sticks on a baking sheet and freeze for at least 1 hour (important to prevent cheese leakage).
4. Heat oil in a deep skillet or fryer to 350°F (175°C). Fry 4–5 sticks at a time for 1–2 minutes or until golden brown.
5. Remove and drain on paper towels. Serve hot with marinara sauce.
Notes
• Freezing before frying is key to keeping cheese from oozing out.
• For a lighter option, air fry at 390°F for 6–8 minutes.
• Store leftovers in the freezer and reheat in oven or air fryer.
