Ingredients
1½ lb ground beef
1 tbsp olive oil
1 small onion, finely diced
1 green bell pepper, finely diced
1 cup mushrooms, finely chopped
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 cup shredded provolone or mozzarella cheese
1/2 cup breadcrumbs
1/4 cup milk
1 large egg
1 tsp salt
1/2 tsp black pepper
1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
Optional topping:
4–6 slices provolone cheese
Instructions
1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a loaf pan or baking sheet with parchment.
2. Heat olive oil in a skillet and sauté onion, bell pepper, and mushrooms until softened.
3. Add garlic and cook until fragrant, then let the mixture cool slightly.
4. In a large bowl, combine ground beef, sautéed veggies, cheese, breadcrumbs, milk, egg, salt, pepper, and Worcestershire sauce.
5. Mix gently until just combined.
6. Shape into a loaf and place in the prepared pan or on the baking sheet.
7. Bake for 40 minutes, then top with provolone slices if using.
8. Return to oven and bake another 10–15 minutes until cooked through and cheese is melted.
9. Let rest for 5 minutes before slicing.
Notes
• Use lean beef to avoid excess grease.
• Serve with mashed potatoes or roasted veggies.
• Leftovers make amazing sandwiches the next day.
