Ingredients
**Chocolate Cake Layer**
1 cup all-purpose flour
1 cup granulated sugar
1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
1 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 cup buttermilk
1/2 cup hot water or coffee
1/3 cup vegetable oil
1 egg
1 tsp vanilla extract
**Dark Chocolate Mousse**
6 oz dark chocolate, chopped
1 cup heavy cream (divided)
2 tbsp powdered sugar
**White Chocolate Mousse**
6 oz white chocolate, chopped
1 cup heavy cream (divided)
2 tbsp powdered sugar
**Ganache Topping**
1/2 cup heavy cream
4 oz semi-sweet chocolate, chopped
Instructions
1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line a 9-inch springform pan.
2. Whisk flour, sugar, cocoa, baking soda, and salt in a large bowl.
3. Add buttermilk, hot water, oil, egg, and vanilla. Mix until smooth.
4. Pour into pan and bake for 25–30 minutes. Cool completely.
5. For dark chocolate mousse: heat 1/2 cup cream until hot. Pour over dark chocolate and stir until smooth. Chill briefly, then fold in whipped cream and sugar.
6. Repeat for white chocolate mousse with white chocolate and remaining cream.
7. Spread dark mousse over cooled cake layer. Chill 20 minutes.
8. Spread white mousse over dark layer. Chill 2+ hours until set.
9. For ganache: heat cream and pour over chopped chocolate. Stir until glossy.
10. Cool slightly, then pour over top of cake and spread.
11. Chill cake until ganache is set. Slice and serve cold.
Notes
Use a springform pan for easy layering and release.
For clean slices, use a hot knife wiped between cuts.
Can be made a day in advance — even better chilled overnight.
